You Can't Control Everything in Life, but Here's What You Can Do

You Can't Control Everything in Life, but Here's What You Can Do

No matter how hard you try, you can’t control EVERYTHING in life. You can’t control the past, you can’t control the weather, and you definitely can’t control other people’s thoughts. You can, however, control one thing: you.

You and only you can only control what you do. No one else has control over your life. You’re the only one in charge of it.

You have the power to control your own thoughts and your own actions. No matter what life gives you, you have the ability to choose how you respond to it. Do you react negatively or positively? Do you react with hope or fear? Be careful; how you respond affects how life responds back to you.

Negativity spawns more negativity. Being negative inevitably has life react negatively to you. Your life will be affected in negative ways if you go down that path. On the flip side, positivity also spreads the same way.

A positive attitude is contagious. A simple smile can go viral. Reacting to anything and everything life throws at us with a positive attitude is the only way to have a positive life.

You can’t control the weather, but you can control how you prepare for it. You can choose to dress appropriately. If you’re going somewhere, you can plan an appropriate route that avoids nasty traffic. If there is traffic, you can allot yourself enough time to get there on time.

You can’t control what happened in the past, but you can control what you do now in the present. If you play your cards right, you can use all your experiences in the past as learning lessons to make smarter decisions today.

You can’t control what other people think or act, but you certainly can influence them, like how parents influence their children. If you’re trying to help someone, don’t beat yourself up if the outcome doesn’t come out the way that you want it to be. If you’re trying to help someone quit an addiction, it’s not your fault if s/he doesn’t cut the habit. You can be an influence for good in their lives, but keep in mind that they themselves are ultimately in charge of their lives, just as you’re in charge of yours.

Even if you can’t control everything, there are some things that you can control: your thoughts, your attitude, and your actions.
