Cherish the Joyful Moments

Cherish the Joyful Moments

With the past year in the COVID-10 pandemic, it’s important to remind yourself to hold on to joyful moments whenever they come.

For many, the pandemic was tough. People got sick. People died. There are still people who survived COVID and are still suffering with long term complications. People lost jobs. Many people struggled. It wasn’t all doom and gloom, but it also wasn’t a completely joyful year.

That’s why when joyful moments happen, they feel extra special. It’s a calmer part inside a storm. During the pandemic, some of my friends and family have shared their joyful moments on social media. Many of them got married, some welcomed new babies into the world, others got new jobs, and after vaccinations started rolling out, being reunited with loved ones. When these moments come, recognize that these moments have been rare and haven’t come enough.

A few weeks ago at the office, we had a small and short surprise birthday celebration for one of my colleagues. Since we’ve been working remotely for most of the year, this was a refreshing event, even if more than half of our colleagues were working remotely that day (and still are). For a few minutes, there was some semblance of pre-pandemic “normalcy.”

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is short and precious. Whenever you get a chance to experience a moment of joy, cherish it, and hold onto it for as long as you can. These moments will turn into memories that can carry us past this pandemic.
