Don't Forget How Far You've Come
Life isn’t easy. You and I both know this. Every now and then, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you haven’t done much with your life. I feel that way sometimes too. It doesn’t just happen at a quarter-life crisis or even a mid-life crisis. It happens people at all different age groups, and I have felt that way in each stage of my life.
Even right now, in my 30s, it’s easy for me to compare my life to people who are around the same age, especially people I grew up with. I admire them for their success, and it’s really easy to measure myself against them, which can be a really bad idea. I can look at anything, and I mean anything, they have and use that to justify my failure. Sure, some of them have nice houses, luxurious cars, and live lavish lifestyles, and I can beat myself up about not having it too. The thing is, even though I don’t have everything they have, and they don’t have everything that I have. It’s not good for me (or anyone really) to base my worth off the comparison of the accomplishments of other people.
Even though it doesn’t always feel that way, I am proud of my life. I am satisfied with what I have and what I do. I know that I don’t have the most luxurious lifestyle and I could always use a little more, but I have enough, and I am proud of that. I am also proud of the career I built and am still building today. Being able to say all is enough for me to be content.
I have come a long way to get to where I am at. Over the years, I had to overcome so many challenges to be where I am currently at. These experiences also helped me be the person who I am today. The adventure hasn’t been easy. There were many times I felt that I was never going to make it and I would just end up being a failure.
I know our lives our different, but we both have come some way in life. Even if I didn’t come as far as you or vice versa, or our routes and challenges were entirely different, we both still had to put in some time, effort, and resilience to be where we are right now. That is something to be proud of and something that you should never forget.
