Don't Give In to Hopelessness
Hope is a precious thing. In one moment, it’s thriving, and other times, it’s fleeting. Within any moment, it can be one or the other.
I know everything seems daunting right now. We have the COVID-19 pandemic threatening the health and life of many people. We have an economic downturn. People have lost their jobs and their livelihoods. We have mental and emotional struggles due to the physical distancing many of us have been doing since March. In the United States, we have a wide political divide that is threatening the foundation of our society. It feels like there’s nothing we can do to make things better, but yet, we can’t give in.
We’ve had hard times before. It may not look like anything now, but we’ve had to overcome difficult challenges in the past, and we can do so again. We have survived pandemics before. We have survived a recession before. Even with our political divide, we are still more united than divided. Overcoming the challenges of the present is going to take everything we’ve got. It’s going to take courage, resilience, and determination.
We have to hope for a future worth fighting for. I still believe that better days lie ahead, but it’ll only happen if we continue to have hope and faith that things will get better. Having hope isn’t enough; we need to act on it. We need to keep the fire of hope ablaze in our hearts and use it to ignite actions. This means that we continue to live our lives the best we can. It means that we muster up the courage to face what challenges the pandemic throws at us, even if it’s one single day at a time.
