Simple Thoughts on Kindness
Being kind is a simple thing. It's choosing to be a good human being. It's a virtue. It's actively choosing to be compassionate and caring, especially when it's easier not to be. Trust me, it's not always easy, but it's always possible to be a decent human being.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be emotionally hard to get by, let alone be kind. Maintaining one's own mental and emotional health can be tough; I've experienced my fair share in the past year. It can be hard to be kind when you're struggling, and that's understandable. Just keep in mind that there are many people struggling right now, so if you have the capacity for kindness, please do.
When it's hard to be kind, that is exactly the moment when it's important to be kind. Surprisingly, the harder it is to be kind, the more important it is to be kind. Right now, people are struggling physically with their health, mentally, emotionally, and financially. The times that are the hardest to show kindness to others is when being kind is the most important thing you can do. Today seems like a perfect opportunity to practice kindness.
Although it sometimes does cost money to do kind things for others (like bringing people food household supplies, or other basic necessities), it doesn't cost a thing to be kind person. You can do something as simple as check in on your family, friends, and neighbors. You don't need anyone's permission or any type of license to be kind. It's all a choice you make.
If you choose to be kind, you will act out of kindness, and as a result, we will live in a kinder world.
