If You Want to Be Successful, You Have to Take Care of Yourself
For some reason, people think that they have to practically kill themselves in order to be successful. Although it is important to put in time and effort, it is more important to have balance. It is not healthy to work 60+ hour work weeks or make yourself a martyr at work.
You need to take care of yourself in order to maximize your potential. You need to be at optimal (not perfect) physical, mental, and emotional health in order to be at peak productivity.
When I take care of myself, I feel good and am an effective and efficient high performing machine. This is when I eat healthier, exercise more, and make sure I get enough sleep. this is also when I make sure that I get some “me time” and have time to reflect and plan ahead. This is also when I cultivate my relationships with people. I can’t live my life in isolation. I need my family and friends as my support system.
When I don’t take care of myself, I’m not 100%. I don’t feel like myself. I constantly feel tired and unmotivated. I’m still able to get what I need done, but it’s not as pleasant as when I’m physically feeling good about myself. I could get a lot more done if I was in peak shape.
When you take care of yourself, you are giving yourself the best possible chance to do well every single day. So remember to prioritize your health. Go for a walk, eat your vegetables, or take a nap. Doing that opens up opportunities for success.
