Life is All about Balance
Years ago, a friend of mine (Hi Amy!) told me that everything needs balance. It was a simple concept that took me a while to understand. My life, and everything in it (family, friends, career, etc) requires balance.
Spending time with family and is important, yet it is also important to make some time for yourself. It is important to cultivate relationships with your loved ones, but it is just as important for you to have personal time. That time is important for you to reflect, meditate, plan for the future, and focus on what you need to.
With your career, it’s important to put in time and effort, but it’s also important to be able to set boundaries so you’re not a workaholic. These boundaries help protect your personal sanity as well as your relationships with your friends and family.
Too much or too little of anything isn’t a good thing. Scarcity is bad, and so is excess. Not having enough food leads to starvation and too much leads to gluttony. This concept applies to much more.
Maintaining balance is the never-ending struggle in life.
Balance applies to everything. Be passionate about what you do, but don’t be obsessed. Be compassionate, but not gullible. Expect more from life, but don’t get greedy.
It’s hard to be perfectly balanced, and it’s okay if things aren’t right now. That’s the challenge in life. You’re working towards balance and when you get there, the challenge is maintaining it.
Life works best when things are in balance.
