Gratitude During the Pandemic

Gratitude During the Pandemic

Like many of you, I’ve been feeling a whole rollercoaster of emotions within the last year. As tempting as it is to give in to despair, I’m choosing to respond better. Gratitude is something I’m intentionally putting more effort to practice right now, in the depth of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During this pandemic, I’m very thankful for so much. I know that people have gotten sick, died, or are dealing with long-term effects of surviving COVID-19. I know a lot of people have lost their jobs, lost income, and plainly just trying to financially survive right now. I know that if you are still consistently practicing physical and social distancing, the isolation is mentally and emotionally draining. Being vigilant with sanitary practices (like wearing masks, limiting contact with others, being sanitary, etc.) is physically draining, especially when pandemic fatigue sets in. I’m tired too.

I’m thankful that I still have a job right now. I know not everyone is as lucky. Also, I’m very fortunate that I can work safely from home (for the most part). I know it’s not ideal, but it’s better to be cautious than potentially spreading COVID-19 to my coworkers and their families.

I’m grateful to be healthy. So far, no one in my immediate family has contracted COVID-19. Even though I can attribute it to our vigilance, I am still very thankful for my family’s safety.

Overall, right now, my family and I are well. I recognize that we are both privileged and very fortunate. From now till the end of the pandemic, and beyond, I will continue to count my blessings.
